“I find beauty in all things authentic, pure, and eternal. And so I value honesty, I value holiness, and I value the soul.”
Drawing inspiration from her parents wedding photos, Liana’s intention in her photography is to capture candid and timeless photos. She loves photos of catching a couple stealing kisses while waiting for their guests to come up for a photo, sweet little whispers between the lovers, and hugs from nieces and nephews; guests grinning and applauding at the announcement of the new couple: These are all moments Liana Mikah loves to capture when photographing the life of a wedding.
What do you making images mean to you?
Making art means I am entering someone’s else’s life and showing them what their life looks like from the other side. They get to see the moments they are feeling. It is quite a special thing to be able to reflect these feelings into printed memories. I love making images.
Where did you grow up and how did that play a part in your photography?
I was born in Europe, specifically White Church, Kiev. I was 7 months when I moved overseas to Portland, OR. And though I was only a baby and definitely don’t remember much about Europe, I believe my work definitely has European culture to it. The way I see details has everything to do with the mindset I was raised in. I got the chance to visit Europe in 2010 and most recently in 2015 and it felt like home. It inspired and fueled every fiber of my being when I was there. I think that speaks for itself. Portland always fuels my hunger for creativity as well and I find Portland is a little bit of every country I got to visit while I traveled.
What sort of details make up your life?
You’ll find Liana collecting flowers along the cities she visits, drying them and placing them in her travel journal. You’ll always note how good she smells. She loves perfume (Dipytique Paris Eau Duelle is her current favorite) and she plans on creating her own. You may also find Liana laying on the beach, soaking in the sun. You will almost always find Liana drinking coffee (Bulletproof Coffee) with a book in hand. You’ll find her traveling a lot as she loves to explore and make new memories. Trips to London, Paris, Portugal, Israel, Italy left her hungry to see more of the world. Train rides have become one of her favorite ways of transport. Train rides in Europe is one of her favorite memories, especially traveling through Italy. Every so often you’ll find her writing a letter to loved ones. She loves handwritten letters. The sound of rain pattering and candles burning is one of Liana’s favorite views. If you come over, you’ll note Liana’s love for plants (although they seem to die quickly). If you hang out with Liana only once, you’ll definitely note that she has a personal relationship with Jesus, she includes Him in all she does.

Why do you do what you do?
I was created to be a creator and I express this through my love for my work. My creativity comes from my Origin, Jesus Christ. He is the reason for all that I do. I wouldn’t be here on this Earth if he didn’t place me right where I am at and it fills me with the greatest gratitude to be known and to be loved so dearly by my Beloved King. My work simply wouldn’t be what it is, if it were not for Him. I give Him all the glory for his handiwork in Me.
Do you shoot with the left or right eye?
Now that I think about it, left. I had to pick up my camera and take a photo to notice which eye I shoot with.
